Step Into The Trees. GROW INTO YOURSELF.

WYLD Lands is a nature-based forest school in North Wilkesboro where the wild terrain of Highland Park becomes the ultimate classroom for curiosity, grit, and discovery.

About Us

Cultivating CuriosityIn The Heart Of The Woods

WYLD Lands was founded on the belief that children are natural scientists, engineers, and explorers. In an increasingly digital world, we provide a sanctuary at Highland Park where the children of Wilkes County can step away from screens and reconnect with the earth. We don’t just teach about nature; we teach in it, allowing the seasons and the “1000 Hours Outside” movement to dictate an immersive curriculum rooted in child-led, play-based education.

Whether they are building shelters with real tools, exploring stream ecosystems, or solving problems in the dirt, our youth naturally develop independence, critical thinking, and self-esteem. Supported by a focused 6:1 youth-to-teacher ratio, every “messy” discovery helps our adventurers grow rooted in themselves and their surroundings. With income-based scholarships available for all programs, we ensure every child has the opportunity to let their imagination run wild beneath the trees.

Cultivating Curiosity

OUR FOURPILLARS

IMMERSIVE NATURE CONNECTION

We believe deep learning happens through dirt-under-the-fingernails experience. By spending hours in the woods, children develop a sensory-rich understanding of the local ecosystem, from the creek beds to the canopy.

Autonomy & Child-Led Discovery

We honor the child’s innate curiosity. Our mentors facilitate rather than dictate, allowing students to choose their path of exploration—whether that’s tracking local wildlife or engineering a fort from fallen branches.

Resilience Through Calculated Risk

Grit is grown, not given. By learning to safely use whittling tools, climb trees, and navigate uneven terrain, children build physical confidence and the mental toughness to overcome obstacles.

Ecological Stewardship

We teach the “Leave No Trace” mindset from day one. Our students learn that they are not just visitors in the forest, but caretakers of it, fostering a sense of responsibility for our community’s natural resources.

Real Stories. Real Experiences.
